And
they’re off! 132 runners from as far away as North Carolina
and Ohio competed in the fifth annual Smithville Day 5K.
Top female finisher Samantha Augeri (number 344) and top
male Shaun Horan (number 398) can be seen center and right
in the starting field of runners.

Report on the 2009 race 6/13/09
The fifth running of the
Smithville Day 5K took place June 13, 2009 starting at 9:30 a.m.
132 runners competed in the race. The temperatures were in the
low 70s with sunny skies. The
top female finisher was Samantha Augeri with a time of 20:31 and the top
male finisher for three years in a row was Shaun Horan with a time
of 16:58.
Runners were treated to 40 door
prizes, huge homemade cookies, a goody bag with a custom printed
glass, several locally produced products and a free lift ticket for
mountain biking at Plattekill Mountain!

Top finisher
in the “male 9 and under” division, Ashton Craver (age 6) of
Greene receives “high fives” from his father Scott and
sister Scotia as he completed the 3.1 mile course. All 4
members of the Craver family including Ashton’s Mom, Brandi
(next to cross the finish line after Ashton) competed in the
race. Scotia Craver (age 9) repeated as the winner of the
“female, 9 and under” division, which she won in the 2008
race. Congratulations to the Craver family!

Runners on

Other runners heading away from the camera have already made
the turnaround and can be seen passing the two mile mark on
their way to the finish line at the fire station in
Smithville Flats.

This 5K run/walk kicks-off a
day-long celebration in Smithville. Other activities include a
parade, tractor-pull, craft show, flea market and chicken barbeque. This race is being
offered by the Town of Smithville and our local volunteer fire department to contribute to a
building-fund for a new fire station.

The fourth running of the
Smithville Day 5K took place June 14, 2008 starting at 9:30 a.m.
110 runners competed in 77 degree weather with 78% humidity and sunny. The
top female finisher was Anna Crumb of Greene and the top
male finisher for two years in a row was Shaun Horan of Norwich.
The date for next year's race is Saturday,
June 13th, 2009.

Smithville Day 5K took place June 9, 2007 starting at 9:32 a.m.
70 runners competed in 70 degree weather and sunny. The
top female finisher was Charlene Lyford of Greene and the top
male finisher was Shaun Horan of Norwich also setting a new course
record of 16:27. The date for next year's race is Saturday,
June 14th, 2008.

Smithville Day 5K took place June 10, 2006 starting at 9:37 a.m.
48 runners competed in perfect, mid-50s running weather. The
top female finisher was Diane Matthews of Johnson City and the top
male finisher was Eric Maki of Cortland.

42 runners competed in perfect, mid-50s running weather. The
